The American media Washington Post (WP) reported President Biden’s top 10 achievements, including the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit, on the 27th (local time). These achievements selected by WP policy columnist Mark Thyssen included the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit.

WP said, “He (Biden) presided over the first tripartite summit of Korea, Japan, and the United States,” and added, “The Camp David meeting of the three alliances was a watershed in East Asian security.” In particular, attention was paid to the harmony between the leaders of Korea and Japan.

WP, which ranked the tripartite summit as 8th, quoted an official from the George W. Bush administration and said, “It is rare for the leaders of Korea and Japan to meet us in the same space,” and evaluated it as part of strengthening their alliance to counter China.

President Biden’s joint training with Japan and Australia in the South China Sea, the promotion of AUKUS security partnership with the UK and Australia, and the holding of the Quad summit were also mentioned in the same context.

Support for Israel was cited as the top achievement after Hamas’ Al-Aqsa flood raid. WP said, “Biden strongly supported Israel in its fight against Hamas, despite pressure from his allies and political position.”

The second achievement was support for Ukraine. WP said, “President Biden has so far provided $68 billion (approximately KRW 87.5568 trillion) in military aid to Ukraine,” noting that this not only countered Russian threats but also created jobs.

Five of the ten achievements were related to China. In particular, WP cited the fact that President Biden twice called Chinese President Xi Jinping a ‘dictator’ despite his summit meeting with him as the fifth achievement.

In addition, the sale of weapons worth a whopping $80 million (approximately KRW 103.1 billion) to Taiwan was cited as the sixth achievement. WP said that approval for arms sales on this scale was unprecedented and angered China.

The promotion of rapid weapons development and production projects with military power competition with China in mind (7th place) and measures to restrict China’s access to cutting-edge technology (9th place) were also mentioned. The Korea-U.S.-Japan summit is also considered an achievement related to China.

In addition, the elimination of Khalid Ahmad al-Jabouri, a senior leader of the Islamic State (IS), through an airstrike in northern Syria last April was listed as the 10th achievement.
