According to Australia’s Sky News on the 4th (local time), hotel accommodation prices are soaring during the Paris Olympics, which starts in July this year. The opening day of the Paris Olympics is July 26.

According to a survey by UFC Que Choisir, a French consumer group, from the 20th to the 21st of last month, the average accommodation price for two adults on the opening ceremony day was 1,033 euros (about 1.48 million won).

This is a 226% increase compared to the average accommodation price of 317 euros (about 450,000 won) on July 12, two weeks before the opening day.

This survey was conducted on 80 3-star and 4-star hotels near the Seine River in Paris. Reservations were already closed and only 40 of the 80 hotels were available. Of these, 30% of hotels required a minimum stay of 2 to 5 nights.

The average number of nights required is 3.4 days, which, calculated as a cost, is 2,947 euros (about 4.23 million won). You have to pay an average of 867 euros (about 1.24 million won) per night.

UFC singled out the five-star L’h?tel Villa Marquis Meli? collection as the place with the most notable rates. If you make a reservation for 4 nights, you have to pay 8380 euros (about 12.03 million won), that is, 2095 euros (about 3 million won) per night.

UFC said, “It is natural for hotel prices to rise during the Olympics, but they have risen more than expected.”

He also pointed out, “Many hotels were criticized during the 2016 European Football Championship and the 1998 FIFA World Cup held in France,” and “compared to this Olympics, the rate increases for the previous two events were reasonable.”

French authorities expect more than 16 million tourists to visit Paris during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
