British Conservative MP Neil Parish announced his resignation Saturday (30) after admitting to watching pornographic videos during a debate in the House of Commons.
“I was looking for a tractor,” the 65-year-old former farmer told the BBC. “But I came to another page with a similar name and looked at it for a while. I shouldn’t have,” Parish tried to explain.
“But the mistake, my big mistake, was that I went back a second time, and it was deliberate,” “it got out of hand,” she said suddenly, almost on the verge of tears.
In an interview published Saturday by The Daily Telegraph, Parish had already suggested the idea that she had “accidentally” entered the site.
“We support Neil Parish’s decision to step down as Member of Parliament,” said a Conservative Party spokesperson from the Tiverton and Honiton district, where Parish was elected MP in 2019.
The announcement came after the Daily Mirror reported that a member of Boris Johnson’s government referred to the incident at a meeting of Conservative lawmakers on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, an investigation into the matter was launched within Johnson’s party, but the name of the attorney involved was not released.
“This attitude is absolutely unacceptable,” said one of the Conservative disciplinarians, who demanded “precautions be taken”.
Finally, he surrendered to the parliamentary committee investigating the behavior of Parish lawmakers, the Conservative Party said on Friday, removing him from his parliamentary caucus pending investigations.
