Israeli soldiers “took control of an underground missile production site used to produce long-range projectiles capable of reaching northern Israel,” a military spokesman said.

In recent weeks, troops have operated in Bureij, in the center of the Palestinian enclave, and have discovered several tunnel entrances reaching a depth of around 30 meters and, “with precise intelligence information, they have discovered a terrorist stronghold used to manufacture weapons,” he explained.

Separately, soldiers located several other underground production facilities used to make long-range rockets, explosives and precision boosters for Hamas’ mortars, small arms and unmanned aerial vehicles, in operations that resulted in the killing of ” dozens” of militiamen, according to the army.

The area is connected to a network of branching tunnels that were used to transport weapons to all Hamas battalions in the Strip, he explained.

The war broke out after the Hamas attack on 7 October, which involved the launch of around 3,000 rockets and the simultaneous infiltration of the same number of militiamen, who massacred just under 1,200 people and kidnapped another 250 in Israeli cities near the Strip.

The discovery announced Monday “significantly affected the enemy’s ability to produce and improve these weapons,” the Israeli military says.
