14-year-old Ukrainian young athlete Alina Peregudova died after a bomb attack by Russian troops in Mariupol. The news was confirmed by the Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation (UWF), which released a note describing the episode.
Despite being three years younger than some of her main competitors, Peregudova became the national under-17 weightlifting champion in the up to 40kg category and is seen as the country’s promise in Olympic sport.
“The Russian aggressor continues to kill Ukrainians in his terrible war. Another victim of Putin’s troops was Alina Peregudova, a promising athlete from Donetsk, who was killed by enemy bombs in the city of Mariupol.”
