In the continuation of the war unleashed in the Middle East, the Israeli army confirmed this Monday on assassination of Wissam Hassan Tawil in Syria, Member of Hamas and who is accused of leading the recent missile attack on Israeli territory.
The Israeli army itself confirmed the news of the death of Hassan Tawil, who considered “a central figure” in the war that broke out on 7 October 2023.
“The Israel Defense Forces eliminated Hassan in Beit Jinn, Syria. He was a central figure responsible for rockets fired by Hamas from Syrian territory into Israel in recent weeks,” an Israeli army spokesperson said.
The death of Wissam Hassan Tawil occurred after a rocket fired from a drone hit the car he was traveling in in a town about 10 kilometers from the border with Israel. At least one other member of the armed group was on board and was seriously injured.
According to Israeli spokesmen, the soldier “directed Hamas terrorist cells that launched rockets from Syria”.
Hassan Tawil played a leading role in the direction of military operations in the south and in the images released by the pro-Iran movement he was seen next to Hassan Nasrallah and the head of the Iranian Pasdaran group Qassem Soleimani, assassinated by the United States four years ago.
After confirming the death of this soldier, Israel highlighted it “They will not allow terrorism from Syrian territory.”
Since the outbreak of the war between the two factions on October 7, bombings from Syria towards Israel have been repeated, causing an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Iranian and pro-Iranian militias are present in Syria as allies of that country’s president, Bashar al-Assad, and Israel often attacks some of his military positions.
On December 30, at least 19 people died in a shelling by unidentified fighters on an Iranian convoy and militia positions in eastern Syria, on the border with Iraq, in an attack blamed on Israel, according to the Syrian Observatory for human rights.
On October 7, Hamas launched a series of attacks against Israeli territory that almost abandoned it 1,200 dead and around 240 hostages.
The Israeli army, for its part, responded with a bloody military campaign in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, between requests and peace treaties, the conflict does not stop and neither do the deaths, given that Hamas has denounced the death of more than 23,000 people due to attacks by Israeli forces.
