Attal, considered one of the most faithful collaborators of the president, a former socialist militant, is the most popular member of the current Government and will have the task of relaunching its action, after the adoption in the last year and a half of unpopular measures such as the reform pensions and immigration law.

It will be there fourth head of government of the Macron era, the second since his re-election in May 2022, joined by two in the first term, Edouard Philippe, from 2017 to 2020, and Jean Castex until 2022.

The new government that Attal will compose is expected to be announced in the next few hours, thus taking a new step forward in his dazzling political career, which began just eight years ago as spokesperson for Macron’s electoral campaign.

With him he was elected deputy, appointed Secretary of State for Education and Youth in his first governmentExecutive spokesperson in 2020 and Finance Minister two years later, before making the jump to Education six months ago.

The fight against bullyingwhich he himself admitted to having undergone during his school days, was one of his strong points, which increased his popularity.

Attal also becomes the first openly homosexual person to become head of the Executivesince his partner is Stéphane Séjourné, an aide of the president who is on the list of favorites to direct his party’s manifesto in the European elections in June.

Elections for which the far right appears favored in the polls, with Jordan Bardella at the top of the list, a trend that Attal’s nomination seeks to reverse.

Attal, who enjoys greater consensus in the polls, will have to reverse the situation at the helm of a new Executive that is suffering from the wear and tear of not having a parliamentary majority, which led his predecessor to adopt numerous laws without the vote of parliamentarians. deputies and face 31 motions of censure in 20 months, one of which passed by just nine votes.

A weakness that the new prime minister inherits in a key year for the country, with the prospect of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in mid-yearwhich will absorb a good part of the government’s energy to avoid a failure like the one experienced by the country in the 2022 Champions League final at the Stade de France.

Security during this event is one of the main concerns of the Executive, especially on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony on 26 July which will take place on the Seine, which represents a challenge for law enforcement.
