The dispute over the existence of a treasure it’s a Hell It is a classic in philosophical discussions between friends. Debates become eternal, without an exact conclusion and with more doubts than answers. However, during those discussions, did you ever wonder What would the temperature of each be if they existed??
In the 1970s, a team of scientists proposed to answer this question, based on Bible verses to get the exact calculation. The curious? According to the mathematical calculations of these anonymous experts, Heaven would be much hotter than Hell itself.
The article that calculated the temperatures of Heaven and Hell
Magazine Journal of Applied Optics published a paper in 1972, anonymously, that settled the question of what the temperature would be of the Hell and heaven in case it existed. Although it did not have a name, it was speculated that the calculation was made by two or three scientists, based on two passages from the Bible.
For the temperature of Paradise, specialists took the lead Isaiah 30:26which said, “And then the light of the Moon shall be as the light of the Sun, and the light of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days.”
According to the logic of experts, the Sky would receive seven times the radiation from the Moon that the Earth receives from the Sun. In the mathematical calculations to deduce the radiation in the Sky, they multiplied 7 by 7, giving as a result: 49 times the Earth’s radiation.
Then they used the Stefan-Boltzmann thermodynamic law, according to which “a black body emits thermal radiation with a total hemispheric emissive power proportional to the fourth power of its temperature”. Based on this equation and assuming that the average temperature of the Earth was 25°C, they concluded that the temperature in The sky is 525ºC.
On the other hand, to calculate the Hell they used the passage of Revelation 21:8which reads: “…for idolaters and all liars, their inheritance will be the lake that burns with fire and brimstone.”
In order for sulfur to melt, to the point of forming a lake, it must be exposed to a temperature at or below its boiling point, which would be 444.6ºC. With this analysis they determined that Hell must have a temperature of 445ºC, lower than the degrees of Heaven.
Years later, and disagreeing with the finding that Heaven burns hotter than Hell, other researchers decided to revise the paper and supported it the Isaiah passage may refer to a single factor of 7.
If that were the case, the temperature up there would be higher 231.5ºCmuch fresher and adapted to beliefs about the afterlife.
