Frederick “I need the trust of my loving wife and someone greater than us,” he said. Then, when she kissed Queen Mary, the audience erupted in cheers.

In front of Christiansborg Palace, where the throne succession ceremony was held, thousands of people gathered to welcome the new king and sing the national anthem.

The Royal Guard’s music corps performed its daily march through the city wearing red jackets worn to commemorate major events instead of the usual black jackets. Many people across Denmark watched the abdication and coronation ceremonies live on TV.

René Jensen, who lives in Copenhagen, welcomed the new king wearing a replica of royal robes and a purple crown decorated with jewels. “I expect Frederick

Citizens of Australia, Queen Mary’s birthplace, were also able to meet on the streets of Copenhagen. Judy Langtry, who traveled from Brisbane to see her coronation, told the AP, “I like that she is from an ordinary Australian, not a royal family. We can relate more as we are also from the middle class.”

Queen Margrethe II became the first Danish monarch to step down from the throne in about 900 years. The last time she voluntarily abdicated her monarchy was in 1146, when King Eric III Ram abdicated to enter a monastery.

Margrethe II, who ascended to the throne in January 1972, is the world’s longest-serving monarch. Margrethe II announced her resignation on New Year’s Eve, the 31st of last month, citing health issues. The Queen only returned to her work in April after undergoing back surgery in February last year.

Margrethe II plans to retain her title even after stepping down as queen. Christian (18), the eldest son of Frederick X and Queen Mary, became the crown prince and first in line to succeed to the throne.

According to an opinion poll commissioned by the Danish public broadcaster DR and published on the 12th by the public opinion polling agency Epinion, which surveyed 1,037 Danish citizens, 79% responded that they thought Frederick X was ready to succeed to the throne. 83% of respondents thought that their spouse Mary was ready to become queen.
