On the day of the coronation of Frederick X of Denmark there was a particular moment that captured the attention of the world: The kiss of the King and Queen Consort Mary.
The images of the moment spread quickly on social networks and provoked an unusual number of comments.
The scene – a slight deviation from the protocols – touched the majority, but also generated discomfort in some. “It was the most awkward kiss, but still cute.“, wrote, for example, a user who shared the clip on X.
“This doesn’t seem like a happy occasion to me. “It could be my disappointment”They seem uncomfortable with each other. Good luck and best wishes to the new queen” and “It seems a little awkward. “It’s not a wedding,” are other tweets that appear under the video from @ChristinsQueens.
But the majority, as we anticipated, celebrated the meeting: “Like 20 years ago, how sweet!”, “So relaxed. So emotional. Very grateful. So loving. It was so nice to see him today, the smiles, the children, the crowds in the capital! “So much joy.”

The succession became effective at a Council of State held at Christiansborg Castle, seat of Parliament, once Margaret II signed the abdication decree after more than half a century on the throne, although Frederick’s proclamation came only almost an hour later .
Following Danish tradition since the conversion to a constitutional monarchy in 1849, which does not include a coronation ceremony or guests from other royal houses, it was the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, who had the task of proclaiming Frederick, 55, king of the balcony from Christiansborg.

The new monarch, who called his mother “an unusual regent,” stressed that he will need the support of “my beloved wife, my family and what is greater than us all.”
“My mother was, like few others, one with her kingdom. I hope to be a unifying king,” said Frederick in a short speech, who a few minutes later was accompanied on the balcony by his wife, Queen Mary, of Australian origin, and his four children, led by the now eighteen-year-old Crown Prince Christian.

The king and queen then traveled by carriage to the Amalienborg palace complex, residence of the royal family, and from whose balcony they once again greeted the thousands of people gathered there with their children.
Hours earlier, the then crown princes had left Amalienborg in a car to go to the Council of State, while Margaret II, 83, made the journey in a carriage.
