CNN anchor intervenes after Trump’s ‘invasion’ remark… “Anti-immigrant remarks.”
MSNBC “Stops live broadcasting of unfiltered remarks… It is not a malicious decision.”
As former U.S. President Donald Trump consolidated his lead in Iowa, the first Republican primary, controversy arose as some media outlets cut off the broadcast of his victory speech.
According to local media on the 16th (local time), CNN anchor Jake Tapper intervened while broadcasting former President Trump’s victory speech after the Republican Iowa Caucus the previous day and said, “Former President Trump is declaring victory.”
Just before Tapper spoke, former President Trump was saying, “Our country is experiencing an invasion of tens of millions of people flocking to our country.” He brought up the issue of immigration, one of the headaches of American society.
“As I speak, viewers will hear him (Trump) repeating anti-immigrant statements,” Tapper said. Former President Trump promoted anti-immigrant policies during his term, including the construction of a wall along the southern border.
MSNBC also took a similar move. During the broadcast of former President Trump’s speech, MSNBC switched to main anchor Rachel Maddow, and Maddow said, “The likely winner of the Iowa caucuses has just begun her victory speech.”
“There is a reason why we and other news outlets stopped broadcasting unfiltered live coverage of former President Trump’s comments,” Maddock continued. “This was not done out of malice, and it is not a decision we should entertain.”
On this day, former President Trump tried to rally supporters by emphasizing his political slogans ‘MAGA (Make America Great Again)’ and ‘America First’ in his victory speech.
He also said, “(When I was in office) we had the most secure border in history.” He has already caused controversy during the 2024 presidential campaign by saying that immigrants are polluting the blood of America.
However, there are some voices criticizing CNN and MSNBC’s actions. According to Newsweek, one viewer pointed out that day, “It’s terrible that MSNBC and CNN cut off the speech just because it was about illegal immigration.”
