British royals have had health problems, including King Charles III himself.
The Duchess of York, Sarah Fergusonis the latest to join the list with the discovery of a skin cancer.
The ex-wife of Prince Andrew, the king’s brother, admitted Monday that she had been diagnosed with malignant melanomaor was it a “shock” and thanked the “many messages of affection and support” received, in a message published on his Instagram account.
“I took some time for myself because I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, and the second in less than a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer last summer and undergoing a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery,” Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, says in her message.
The mother of Princesses Eugenie and Beatriz believes that “it was thanks to the great vigilance” shown by her dermatologist that the melanoma was discovered.
“Obviously, Another cancer diagnosis was a ‘shock’, but I am in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support,” she says.
The official spokesperson for the former sister-in-law of King Charles III announced on Sunday that the new cancer had been discovered, which could be identified after a cancerous mole was removed during the treatment the duchess was already undergoing for breast cancer which it had hit him. It was taken over last summer.
The spokesperson noted that the dermatologist of the former daughter-in-law of the late Queen Elizabeth II “He asked to have several moles removed and analyzed, at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery after her mastectomy, and one of them was identified as cancerous.”
Sarah is “incredibly grateful” to her medical team and believes her experience “highlights the importance of checking the size, shape, color and texture and appearance of new moles which could be a sign of melanoma.”
“I am resting at home with my family, feeling lucky to have their love and support,” she adds.
The 64-year-old was married to the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, for 10 years before divorcing in 1996.
They continue to share a home at Royal Lodge, a Crown Estate-owned property in Windsor Great Park.
The health of the royal family
The “Fergie” news follows palace announcements last week that Princess of Wales Kate Middleton would undergo surgery for an undisclosed abdominal problem that has kept her out of royal activities for at least 15 days.
On the same day the Palace also announced that King Charles III would undergo treatment for an “enlarged prostate”, which is common in men his age.
