A 29-year-old woman had to be hospitalized with him serious injuries in one of her legs after being attacked this Monday by a bull shark while I was swimming in the Sydney HarbourIn Australia.
The victim, identified as Lauren O’Neilla young woman kayak enthusiast, was near a private dock in Elizabeth Bay when he suffered a bite to his right leg. As best he could, he managed to reach some stairs and that’s when he started doing it shout for help.
“She was trying to climb up and behind her was her leg, which was completely open and full of dark red blood“said a neighbor in conversation with The Sydney Morning Herald.
Then, other people started arriving at the scene and helped put pressure on the wound stop bleeding. Luckily, a vet who lived nearby gave him a improvised tourniquet.
“She was extremely brave, he was very brave during the whole process. She was lucid and she knew everything that was happening, even when she started bleeding he started to lose consciousness a little. She wasn’t in any state of panic, she was very calm,” one witness said.
Once they arrived, the doctors provided assistance and rushed her to St. Vincent Hospital. A spokesperson for the health center said the victim was there Stable condition, albeit with serious injuries.
The Department of Primary Industries is investigating the case and its specialists, after analyzing photographs of the bite markssuggested that the attack was carried out by a bull shark.
Shark attacks in Sydney Harbor are rare, but the area is known to be an important habitat for bull sharks and their young.
In 2009, an Australian Navy diver was mauled by a bull shark during an exercise in the bay. He lost an arm and part of a leg.
In February 2022, a swimmer at Sydney Beach died after being attacked by what witnesses said was a 4.5 meter long great white shark. It was the first fatal shark attack in Sydney since 1963.
