Educated in the Catholic faith, he showed great interest in religion from a very young age. At the age of 18 he entered the Order of Mercedariansdedicated to the redemption of Christian prisoners in the hands of Muslims.

In 1222 he was sent to Algeria as part of a mission to rescue prisoners. During his stay, on one occasion he offered himself as hostage instead of a Christian who was about to be executed.

He was taken there prison and suffered torture and ill-treatment for his faith, but he refused to give it up.

He was eventually freed thanks to the intervention of his order and returned to Spain. Ordained as a priest, he became a great preacher, gaining fame for his fame wisdom and charity towards the poor and the sick.

He died at the age of 36, in 1240, in the convent of San Nicolás, in Cardona.
