Foreign Minister Fidan Turkiye “Gas and energy cooperation and nuclear power plant construction are also on the agenda”
“Syria and Kurdish issues have already been discussed… Talks are ongoing through grain.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Turkye to discuss the security situation in the Gaza Strip and the resumption of grain routes through the Black Sea.
According to TASS on the 4th (local time), Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan Turkiye said in a TV interview about President Putin’s visit scheduled for the 12th, “Agenda includes cooperation in the (natural) gas and energy sectors, construction of the Akuyu nuclear power plant, grain corridor, “It is expected that regional issues, including Ukraine mediation and especially the situation in the Gaza Strip, will be included,” he predicted.
“There are security issues, especially in Syria,” he said. Regarding Syria, there is an Astana (peace) process in which we are included as a partner,” he said, adding that the issue of the Kurdish separatist armed group Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has been discussed more than once between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Putin. It was announced that it had been discussed.
The Astana Peace Process is a series of peace talks between the three countries, Iran, Turkmenistan, and Russia, with the goal of cessation of hostilities in some regions to ease tensions with Syria.
In addition, “the grain corridor has always been an issue between the two countries. “President Putin and President Erdogan will definitely discuss this issue,” he said. “This is an issue we have been discussing with Russia.” In particular, talks involving the United Nations, Russia, Ukraine, and Turkiye are underway,” he said.
“We are looking at ways to develop new ways to transport grain to global markets via Black Sea transport logistics vessels,” Fidan said. “Previous grain agreements worked within a specific mechanism. It is now clear that another mechanism is possible. “Now they are trying to materialize this possibility.”
He also said, “The presidents of the two countries are in regular contact. “This visit was a planned visit,” he explained. On this day, local media reported that the visit date would be the 12th, but President Turkiye’s office and the Russian Kremlin did not confirm the date and mention it.
If this visit goes through, it will be President Putin’s first visit to a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a Western military alliance, since invading Ukraine in February 2022.
Separately, President Erdogan will visit Egypt for the first time in 12 years on the 14th. It is expected that discussions will be held with Egyptian President Abdulfattah Sisi on the delivery of relief goods to Palestine in the Gaza Strip and measures to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.
