The United States and China held the third economic working group meeting in Beijing on the 5th and 6th to discuss economic issues, and began preparing for a vice-ministerial working group meeting on trade and trade.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on the 7th, the Ministry of Commerce’s Representative and Vice Minister for International Trade Negotiation Wang Shouwen had a video call with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Marisa Lago the day before and discussed issues of economic and trade interest between the two sides.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that in this call, preparations for the first vice-ministerial meeting of the U.S.-China Trade and Trade Working Group were discussed and in-depth communication was held on economic and trade issues.

Vice Minister Wang said in the phone call that “China-US economic and trade cooperation is a stable force in the relationship between the two countries.” “We intend to faithfully implement the important agreement between China and the United States at the San Francisco summit together with the United States,” he said. “We will fully exercise the role of the China-U.S. trade and trade working group, expand cooperation, control differences of opinion, and improve the industry and commerce of the two countries.” “We are willing to create good conditions for cooperation,” he said.

In addition, Vice Minister Wang expressed interest in the U.S. regulation of semiconductors and cloud services in China, fair treatment of Chinese companies in the U.S., and solar energy regulation measures, the Commerce Department said. He appears to have conveyed concerns about regulations against China and emphasized that they must be resolved.

Previously, following the San Francisco summit between President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping in November last year, the U.S. and Chinese Commerce Departments agreed to hold the first meeting of the Commerce Working Group (Vice Minister level) in the first quarter of this year.

Then, last month, Commerce Secretary Gina Lemondo and Commerce Minister Wang Wentao connected by phone and had working-level communication to implement the agreements reached at the summit on trade and commerce.
