The former president of Chile Sebastián Píñera (74 years old) has died. “immersion asphyxia”. This was revealed by the first results of the autopsy on the body of the former president, who drowned in Lake Ranco, about 900 kilometers south of Santiago, after the helicopter he was driving crashed.
The information was released by Third, which cited sources familiar with the procedures carried out by the Medical Examiner Service. In front of the press, the regional director of the SML slipped: “The autopsy gave us a fairly definitive cause of death, however after speaking with the relatives and agreeing with them, it is something we will keep in reserve.”
The result of the autopsy was made known around 10am this Wednesday, the time when Piñera’s remains began to be buried in the Hall of Honor of the former National Congress, in the Chilean capital. A private ceremony was scheduled for around noon in the former Congress, attended by a small number of family and friends.
In the afternoon, the doors of what was the seat of the Santiago Legislature, the power that currently operates in the city of Valparaíso, would be opened so that the general public could greet the former president.
The vigil will continue on Thursday, and on Friday the body will be transferred to La Moneda and then to the Metropolitan Cathedral, in the capital’s Plaza de Armas, for the celebration of tributes. Finally, the response and burial will take place on Friday in the Parque del memoria cemetery in Huechuraba.
