Good Neighbors, a global non-governmental organization (NGO) specializing in children’s rights, announced on the 8th that after the Turkiye-Syria earthquake occurred on February 6 (local time) last year, it provided support to a total of 93,609 victims in 12 affected areas over the past year.

For the first time as a domestic private organization, an emergency relief team was dispatched to the site, and humanitarian support projects were carried out in two stages, including initial response and early recovery. To date, donations and donated items worth approximately 33.2 billion won have been collected.

In the four months following the earthquake, we delivered tents, tarpaulins, and hygiene kits that could be used by over 49,000 people to camps for victims. We created 20 Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) and conducted a Psychosocial Support (PSS) program to help a total of 23,047 children affected by the earthquake recover from trauma.

Since May of last year, we have been carrying out an early recovery project to help victims return to their daily lives. A laundry, education center, and playground were installed in the Turkye Gaziantep refugee camp. Hygiene products and nutritional food for children were also provided to 829 affected households. In the Karaman-Maraş region, where refugees from Turkey and Syria live together, a program was run to help build peaceful relationships and achieve emotional stability for 3,000 children and adolescents.

In October last year, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and domestic and foreign private organizations created a temporary settlement called ‘Korea-Turkiye Friendship Village’ in Turkiye Hatay Province. A total of 500 households are staying.

In cooperation with the Community Chest of Korea, we also provided livelihood support worth $200,000 (approximately KRW 266 million) to 1,013 displaced households in Syria.

Kim Jung-gon, Secretary General of Good Neighbors, said, “We will continue to cooperate with the local government and domestic and foreign partner organizations to support the disaster victims’ daily recovery.”
