After two days of funeral chapel in the former Congress of Santiago, the remains of the former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera will be buried on Friday after a funeral in an emotional state. The former president died on Tuesday afternoon in the Lago Ranco sector, in the Los Ríos region. He was flying his helicopter, which crashed into the reflecting pool. With him there were three other people, who remained unharmed. But the businessman drowned.
Once the news was known, in a country already shocked by the devastating fires in the Viña de Mar and Valparaíso area, President Gabriel Boric declared national mourning of three days and the holding of a state funeral in honor of Piñera.
Since Wednesday afternoon, Piñera’s body has been resting in the headquarters of the National Congress in Santiago, where thousands of people arrived, who waited several hours to see the former president and offer their condolences to his family.
This Friday is the last day of the state funeral. All will begin in the previous Congressand then continue towards the Cathedral of Santiago, where a funeral mass will be held.
Then, the funeral procession will travel through the center of Santiago towards La Moneda, where a tribute to the former president will be held. Subsequently the caravan will move to the Memorial Park, where the family will say goodbye to Piñera with an intimate ceremony.
