A 52 year old man who had won one million dollars in the Chilean lottery was murdered by his nephew, who intended to steal the money together with three other accomplices, withdrew part of the prize from the bank at the time. The crime occurred in the small town of Quillota, in the Valparaíso region, and shocked the community.
The victim, whose identity remains confidential, had obtained the jackpot in October 2023, after purchasing a lottery ticket. On February 6, 2024 he decided to withdraw part of the money, about 30 thousand dollars, from a bank in Rancagua. He was accompanied by his partner and his 21-year-old nephew, who lived with him in a house in the town of Huichahue.
While returning with the car, they were intercepted by three armed individuals, who threatened them and demanded money. The man resisted and fought with one of the attackers, who shot him in the leg, causing severe bleeding. The criminals fled with the loot, while the man he died at the scenefaced with the impotence of his partner and his nephew.
The twist: the nephew, the mastermind of the crime
What no one suspected was that the nephew was the mastermind of the attack, and that he had hired the other three people to execute the plan. According to the police, the young man knew that his uncle had won the lottery and was about to withdraw the money, and he took advantage of that information to organize the robbery. However, their plan went out of control and ended in murder.
The police managed to arrest the nephew and one of the attackers, while the other two remain at large. Those arrested were brought to justice, who charged them with the crime of robbery with murder. Grandson confessed his participation in the accident and he said he did it for economic necessity.
