“The conflict in Gaza is the result of a serious issue being neglected.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan predicted that the regional conflict surrounding the Gaza Strip can be resolved only if Palestine is recognized as an independent state.

According to Arab News on the 13th (local time), President Erdogan said at the World Government Summit (WGS) held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, “World leaders must end the Gaza crisis by resolving the root of the problem and establishing an independent Palestinian state.” “We do it,” he emphasized.

“We will never find an interim solution without an independent Palestinian state,” he said. Unless it is established, any measures taken will remain incomplete.”

This means re-emphasizing the need for the ‘two-state solution’ that President Erdogan has always advocated. The two-state solution is a plan to avoid conflict by establishing a state of Israel and Palestine based on the borders before the Third Middle East War in 1967.

In addition, “We must find the right treatment through accurate diagnosis. “If the problem cannot be diagnosed at the root, there is no solution,” he said, emphasizing that “the conflict in the Gaza Strip is an example of what happens when a major problem is left unresolved.”

He continued, “All unresolved cases that have not been settled have grown larger over time. Further entangled in the stalemate (conflicts due to unresolved cases) were revived again and again. “Everything we sweep under the rug remains unsettling.”

In addition, in October of last year, he opposed the claim that Hamas’ raid was the core cause of the current conflict, recalling Palestine’s long struggle against Israeli expansion since 1948.

President Erdogan said of Israel’s construction and expansion of settlements in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, “Israel considers itself to be above international law. “The policy of occupation, illegal settlement, and genocide has continued for decades,” he criticized.

At this event, he mentioned the role of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in stopping Israel and added that governments should support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which has become difficult to operate due to reduced funding from European countries.

The WGS, held in Dubai from the 12th to the 14th, will be attended by heads of state from 25 countries, more than 85 international organizations, and government officials from 140 countries to discuss future trends in the world.
