Video shot in front of the prison where Navalny suddenly died
Alexei Navalny’s mother posted a video pleading with Russian President Vladimir Putin to “please return my son’s body.”
Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, posted a video on the 20th (local time) filmed in front of the Harp 3 Prison (IK-3) in Siberia’s Yayo-Nenets Autonomous Region, where Navalny suddenly died in prison.
Navalaya complained that she had been trying to see Navalny for five days, but was not allowed, and that they were not even told where he was.
Navalaya looked straight at the camera and said, “Behind me is the ‘Arctic Wolf’ Prison No. 3, where my son Alexei died on February 16th. “I couldn’t see him for five days,” he said. “They refused to hand over the body to me and didn’t even tell me where he was.”
He continued, “I ask President Vladimir Putin. “Only you can solve this problem,” he said. “Please let me see my son. “We request that Alexei’s body be handed over immediately so that a funeral can be held,” he appealed.
Navalny lost consciousness and died after a walk on the 16th in this notorious prison, known as the ‘Arctic Wolf’. Correctional authorities notified his bereaved family that he died suddenly at around 2:17 PM despite emergency treatment such as CPR.
The exact location of Navalny’s body has not been officially confirmed. However, Russian independent media outlet Novaya Gazeta reported that he was transferred to Salekhard Clinical Hospital in Siberia.
Russian authorities are blocking access to the family and attorney and are not confirming his exact whereabouts.
Navalny’s spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, said on the 19th, “We have been informed that Navalny’s body will not be handed over to his family for at least the next two weeks for some kind of chemical test.”
President Putin has not issued a direct message regarding Navalny’s death.
