“Emotion to the point of tears”: what was the first official meeting of King Carlos III after the announcement that he was being treated for cancer

The monarch maintained a meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunakto whom he said he was moved “to tears” by the expressions of support after revealing he was being treated for cancer.

The meeting was announced by the Royal Family through social networks and takes place just over two weeks after the official announcement of King Carlos III’s cancer.

The prime minister told Charles III that “the whole country” gives him its support, while the monarch admitted that he felt very moved, “to the point of tears”, by the messages and cards of support he received after his diagnosis of cancer.

As per tradition, the King’s and Prime Minister’s audiences take place on Wednesday afternoons at Buckingham Palace, following the Prime Minister’s scrutiny session in the House of Commons (Lower) of Parliament.

Charles III began treatment for cancer two weeks ago, of which there are no details, and was hospitalized in the country residence of Sandringham, in the east of England.

Prior to his meeting with Sunak, the monarch attended a meeting of the UK’s Privy Council.
