THE rhythmic gymnastics, backed by science as one of the most complete routines, has gained increasing popularity among fitness enthusiasts. This sport, which unleashes an authentic bodily revolution by working with the whole body, can burn up to 600 calories in an hour.

So… What if I practiced this every day? The answer will be positive: you will gain strength and muscular endurance, and at the same time you will feel better. You will have the added benefit of improving your physical appearance and increasing your self-esteem.

A study conducted by the Department of Physiological Sciences at Stellenbosch University in South Africa revealed that bodyweight plyometric exercises stimulate type 2 muscle fibers more.

In this research, athletes were assigned to three different types of training: traditional weight training, “complex training” (a combination of high- and low-intensity weight training), or bodyweight plyometric training.

At the end of the experiment, all groups showed similar strength gains in exercises such as the back squat, Romanian deadlift and calf raises. This suggests that calisthenics not only increases relative strength in relation to body weight, but also provides significant results in terms of total strength.

What is rhythmic gymnastics?

Although it may seem like a new discipline, this activity was already practiced by the ancient Romans. In fact, the word calisthenics comes from Greek kalos (beauty and stenos (Force).

In the ancient world, calisthenics was used as the main source of physical training for the military, as it was easy to organize and learn. Additionally, it had the greatest transfer to the actual skills and movements that soldiers needed in combat.

Much later, in the Bronx, United States, the Outdoor training, a movement of people who formed in public parks. Thanks to this, rhythmic gymnastics as it is known today has become popular.

It landed in our country in 2012 and has continued to grow since then. The big “plus” of calisthenics is that you can train for free in parks and squares.

In recent times, the city ​​government It incorporated aerobic exercises based on the demand and proposal of neighborhood groups interested in these facilities in public spaces.

Calisthenics is a discipline that includes physical exercises in simple bar structures, using only your own body weight.

This differs from other methods such as functional training or CrossFit, where extra loads are usually used.

What happens if I do gymnastics every day?

It is generally recommended to do at least three rhythmic gymnastics sessions per week. But it is worth saying that these depend on the exercises and the duration of each one.

It can be done every day without major problems, but it is advisable to follow a program accompanied by the gaze of a professional.

For advanced athletes or those with demanding performances, it may be logical to divide the exercises into non-consecutive days, which will allow them to have greater benefits and rest.

The instructors underline the importance of training the whole body in a complete way, since in this way imbalances are avoided.

A study of soldiers by the University of Georgia concluded that a 20-minute high-intensity calisthenics workout was just as effective as a one-hour traditional weight workout.

Among the benefits of rhythmic gymnastics are:
