British banker and philanthropist Jacob Rothschild dies at 87

The British Jacob Rothschild, a philanthropist Known for being part of the well-known banking dynasty, he has died at the age of 87, his family announced on Monday.

“Our father Jacob had a prominent presence in the lives of many people, he was a very successful investor, he was a patron of arts and culture”, underlined the family in a statement which did not specify the date of death.

Even his entourage underlined that it was”a devoted public servant, “a passionate supporter of charitable causes in Israel and Jewish culture, an enthusiastic environmentalist, and a much-loved friend, father and grandfather.”

Rothschild was born in Berkshire, west London, in 1936, and was the son of Victor Rothschild, an aristocrat known for his love of science, for his role as an oil company executive and for being an advisor to Conservative and Labor governments.

Jacob Rothschild began his career at the family bank in 1963, before leaving the company to chair the Rothschild Investment Trust, later renamed RIT Capital Partners, where he worked until 2019.

Between 1991 and 1999 he was a member of the Upper House of the British Parliament, The house of the lords.

Rothschild was a widower and had four children.
