In the last few hours a viral video has resurfaced in which a Filipino stewardess explains why she and her colleagues they have to sit on their hands during takeoffs and landings.
“Have you ever wondered why cabin crew sit on their hands during takeoff and landing?” reads the video description. Henny Lim29 years old, uploaded to TikTok some time ago.
The Cebu Pacific flight attendant explains that it is called “repeater location” and that she and her colleagues implement it to minimize damage in the event of a hypothetical accident.
“This position involves fastening your seat belt securely, sitting upright on your hands (palms up, thumbs tucked, arms loose) and placing your feet on the ground,” says Lim.
Almost as he demonstrates how to sit, the crew member adds that “The goal is to keep the body in a rigid posture so that if there was an impact due to an unplanned emergency, the body would suffer less damage.”
“This limits body movement, thus reducing the risk of injury in the event of an impact,” he notes.
Sitting like that, Lim and his colleagues carry out a “silent check” that prepares them for an emergency situation during every takeoff and landing: “This includes being aware of the emergency equipment on site, the operation of the doors, the orders given and of any visual cues outside the aircraft.”
His video, shared in December 2022, is one of the most viewed on his account and was recently reported in some international media, such as the New York Post.

The young woman has been working as a flight attendant for four months and shares some advice with us.
The second thing is supervise the children. The young stewardess explained: “The plane is not a park. I perfectly understand that the flight for a child must be terrible; obviously you have to entertain the children, make them exercise, etc. You can take a walk down the aisle without problems: ” But what you can’t do is stand up and down the whole flight with the baby on your back.”
“At least in my company, the emergency call button is for emergencies. “You can’t call me to bring you water and to ask me if we will do Beauty free with the emergency button”, she warned thirdly.
Another assistant tip is Don’t go barefoot on the plane. While he did not provide details on the matter, he stressed: “Listen to me, don’t walk barefoot on the plane.”
