According to the BBC on the 27th (local time), around 3:30 a.m. on the 18th, a gunman broke into Cepa 21, a famous winery in Casterillo de Duero, northwest Spain. This gunman did not steal anything from the brewery, but opened the valve on a tank storing red wine and escaped.

According to closed-circuit (CC) TV footage released by Sepa21, a gunman wearing a raincoat and long-sleeved pants entered the brewery and opened the wine tank valves one after another. He found the valve with the familiarity of a brewery official.

It was confirmed that this gunman opened a total of five tanks. Of these, only three tanks were filled with wine, and a total of 60,000 liters (L) of wine were poured, which is worth 2.5 million euros (about 3.611 billion won), a brewery official said.

A brewery official said that it is impossible to open a wine tank without prior knowledge. He said, “It is very difficult for an ordinary person to open a tank that has its own security mechanism,” and “It is likely that the intruder is someone who is familiar with this type of tank or machine.”

“Even though it was dark and there was no light, the gunman moved very smoothly across the winery. “He must have been someone who knew this place well,” he assumed of the culprit.

The local police are investigating the incident after receiving a complaint from the brewery, but it has not yet been revealed for what purpose the assailant committed the crime. Also, the identity of the gunman has not been determined.

However, Jose Moro, CEO of Sepa21 Brewery, said in an interview with local media, “It is clear that the intruder’s only goal is to damage the business.”
