Monica Lewinsky was 50 years old, the same age as Clinton at the time.
Encourage voters and support women’s solidarity through campaigns
Monica Lewinsky (50), who became world-famous for her sex scandal with former U.S. President Bill Clinton, participated in a campaign to encourage voting in the presidential election.
On the 28th of last month (local time), the BBC reported that Monica Lewinsky was conducting a campaign to encourage voting participation in collaboration with fashion brand Reformation and voting encouragement non-profit organization Vote.org. The purpose of the campaign, titled ‘You’ve Got the Power’, is to remind voters of the ‘power’ they have.
He said that voting is a way for voters to make their voices heard and is a crucial aspect of democracy. He went on to encourage people to vote, saying, “You have to vote now so you don’t have to complain for the next four years.”
He had an affair with former President Clinton (then 49 years old), who was in office while working as a White House intern in 1995 (then 22 years old). A colleague, Linda Tripp, who heard the facts, secretly recorded Lewinsky’s voice and delivered it to a special prosecutor who was investigating allegations of former President Clinton’s real estate transactions. This turned into a rare sexual scandal called ‘Zippergate’.
This scandal shook the United States from 1998 to 1999 and put former President Clinton’s political life in jeopardy. He was impeached on charges of perjury about his relationship with Lewinsky, but the vote was rejected in the Senate, ending his term as president. Lewinsky became a target of the media.
Clinton appeared in the 2020 documentary “Hillary,” about his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and admitted, “What I did was terrible.” She went on to say that she was horrified that Lewinsky’s life was defined by scandal.
Lewinsky has been active as a writer and activist, raising her voice against cyberbullying since 2014. In 2018, he recalled that his relationship with Clinton was ‘power driven.’ In 2019, he served as producer for a TV series dealing with ‘Zippergate’.
Through this campaign, he expressed his support for women’s solidarity, saying, “The way for women to gain more power is to help and receive help from each other.”
He turned 50 in July of last year and said that his current age feels like a “true gift.” He revealed that now that he’s 50, he’s come to terms with a lot about himself and life. He went on to say that although he still has trauma from the past, he is looking forward to the next 10 years.
