Only 3% suppressed so far… spread to Oklahoma
Biden: “There is no politics in the face of disaster”… support instructions
A historic forest fire broke out in southern Texas, USA, killing at least two people and burning an area seven times the size of Seoul.
According to the Associated Press on the 29th (local time), the forest fire that occurred in the northwestern Panhandle region of Texas has now spread to an area of 4,400 square kilometers and has spread to northern Oklahoma.
Where the fire swept away, only blackened land remained. A resident of the northwestern town of Stinnett told the Associated Press that the town was no longer what it used to be, with melted road signs and bare-bones cars. Street lights were turned off, and only embers and flames illuminated the town.
According to fire authorities, the forest fire is only 3% contained. As the snow fell and the temperature dropped, we were able to take some time to extinguish the fire, but with warm weather forecast for the weekend, there are concerns that the fire extinguishment will face difficulties.
The cause of the fire has not been revealed to date. Authorities believe that strong winds, hay, and warmer-than-normal temperatures fueled the fire.
“The rain and snow are working in our favor right now,” said Texas A&M Forest Service spokesman Juan Rodriguez. I expected it.
This wildfire is the largest fire ever to occur in Texas. Previously, in 2006, a fire broke out at the East Amarillo complex, burning 3,630 square kilometers and killing 13 people.
According to local media in Texas, at least two people have been officially confirmed dead so far, but additional damage is expected to be confirmed after the fire is extinguished.
U.S. President Joe Biden, who visited Texas that day, ordered all possible support, including dispatching firefighters and equipment.
President Biden said, “There are no red states (Republicans) or blue states (Democrats) in a disaster situation. “There are just communities and families looking for help,” he said. Texas is a predominantly Republican state.
Republican Governor Greg Abbott declared disaster areas in 60 counties and plans to visit the Panhandle on the 1st.
