Pope Francis said today that he will give his knee an injection to combat the severe pain he has been experiencing in recent months.
The procedure came to light after the Pope canceled appointments and sat in the audience row due to discomfort, he told the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
“Excuse me, if I can’t stand up to greet you, the doctors said I have to sit down because of my knee,” Francisco said when he accepted reporters from Corriere.
“I have a tear in my ligament, I will intervene in the infiltrations. I have been like this for a while, I cannot walk. Previously, the popes were walking with a thirst for pregnancy. [trono portátil usado antigamente por pontífices]. A little pain, it must be humiliated…” he said.
Francisco, 85, complains of constant knee pain and has said that his health has been “somewhat erratic” lately.
But in the coming months, the Catholic leader is expected to have a full itinerary with planned visits to Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Canada between June and July.
