Gang rape in India: four more suspects wanted
Police are looking for four more suspects, local media reported Monday. In total seven men allegedly attacked the woman.
“We have formed a team to find out the whereabouts of the suspects,” police official Pitamber Singh Kherwar told AFP. “We will stop them soon,” he promised.
According to the National Criminal Records Bureau, an average of 90 rapes were reported per day in 2022 in India.
However, many of these attacks go unreported, due to the stigma victims often face and also due to a lack of trust in police work.
Convictions are rarely handed down and many cases end up stuck in the country’s overcrowded justice system.
