[2024美대선]Senator Graham: “There is no way left… Let’s quickly become one.”
Discussing declaration of support for Trump… Supporters look forward to the finish
Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, the Republican presidential primary candidate, won her second precious victory on the 5th (local time) amid the dominance of former President Donald Trump, but social pressure is growing within the party.
Former Ambassador Haley won in Vermont, the only one among the Republican primaries held in 15 U.S. states and American Samoa on this day, with a score of 49.9% to 43.9%. This is his second victory after beating former President Trump by about 30 percentage points in the Washington DC primary on the 3rd.
Former President Trump won a landslide victory in 13 states.
Former Ambassador Haley achieved an unexpected victory, but is facing strong pressure from within the Republican Party to resign.
Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) said in an interview with CNN that day, “What the people have said is clear. “I voted for Trump, not Haley,” she said, adding, “In the end, there is no way left.”
He then asked for support, saying, “The sooner we can come together as one, the better. I think Haley can explain better than any other Republican why Trump is better than Biden.”
Although former Ambassador Haley recently signaled that she might not declare support for former President Trump at the Republican National Convention, it was also expected that she believed she would ultimately support Trump.
Representative Graham said, “Having known Haley for most of her political career, I am confident that she will be a team player. There will come a day when she realizes that now is not the time and there is a lot at stake, and I hope that time comes soon.” added.
Haley’s camp is mulling over declaring support for former President Trump. CNN, citing a camp source, reported that there was an internal discussion regarding this and that opinions were divided even among aides.
Former Ambassador Haley recently said, “When you’re in the middle of a fight, you don’t think about what you’re going to do,” and dismissed it as being focused on the primary for now and not thinking about whether to declare support for Trump.
Haley’s supporters are hoping to get through to the national convention in July without resigning midway.
Former Republican Senate Minority Leader Mary Small (Maine) predicted to POLITICO that a lot could happen before the convention, considering former President Trump’s judicial risk and old age.
Former Republican congressman David Emery (Maine) also supported Haley’s run, saying, “(Trump) is in uncharted territory where he could be found guilty before the election,” and “A leader with this kind of burden cannot become president of the United States.”
