The creator of the famous comics and cartoons “Dragon Ball”, the Japanese Akira Toriyama, who died at the age of 68. The designer died on March 1st, but the news only became known on Thursday.
As indicated in a statement published on social networks, Toriyama died due to an acute subdural hematoma.
He Chronic subdural hematoma is a collection of blood and products of its decomposition, of venous origin, which slowly accumulate between the dura mater and the arachnoid. Blood leaks out of the veins, forming a bulging sac that puts pressure on the brain. If the bag is large enough, it can injure or tear nearby brain tissue, damaging the brain. In other cases, the amount of blood is not significant enough and they are defined as lamellar, with a better prognosis.
Regarding the diagnosis, it is advisable that the person in charge of carrying out the examination, be it a general practitioner or a neurologist, begins with a complete neurological evaluation to test both mental functions and strength, sensitivity, coordination, balance and meningeal signs.
Since the signs and symptoms are usually subtle, if there is suspicion of a hematoma, the doctor should prescribe a brain computed tomography (CT) with bone window or a cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with diffusion technique to check it out or ensure a possible CAH.
