The General’s journey to Fux is worse than it seems and shows the longing for guardianship

When the Head of the Legislature meets with the Head of the Judiciary to ensure the health of the institutions, on the same day that the Head of the Judiciary accepts the Secretary of Defense, an active general, for the same purpose, only one conclusion can be reached: the institutions are in trouble. Here’s the thing: there is a clear institutional breakdown instigated by President Jair Bolsonaro.

I’m starting with the army. Luiz Fux received General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, who commanded the Army until 31 March of this year. Let’s say less than a year ago it was number one in the Force. Edson Leal Pujol was sacked in April last year, after three military commanders resigned in solidarity with then-Defense Minister Fernando Azevedo e Silva, because he was seen as “too professional” by the president.

They will understand how history is not good.

After meeting with Fux, Nogueira de Oliveira will meet with Edson Fachin, president of the Supreme Electoral Court. There is no record of defense ministers from Germany, France or the United States (that of Donald Trump…) meeting with the president of their respective supreme courts to discuss the election. With all due respect, the tutelage is reprimanded despite the babbling.

The STF has issued a note about it, namely:
“The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Luiz Fux, received the Minister of Defense, General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, at the Office of the President of the Court this Tuesday (3). Agenda requested. By the General, the head of the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE), Minister With all due respect to the Head of the Judiciary before a scheduled meeting with Edson Fachin. This was the general’s first visit to the head of the STF since taking office as Secretary of Defense.
During the meeting, the Minister of Defense stated that the Armed Forces is committed to Brazilian democracy and that the military will act within its mandate to ensure that the election process is normal and uneventful.
In response, the head of the STF stressed that the Brazilian Supreme Court cares about harmony between Powers and respect between institutions.
.

Before speaking with Fux, Nogueira met with Bolsonaro and the respective commanders of the three Forces in the Ministry of Defense. His predecessor, and possibly second on the re-election list, Braga Netto was also present. Reading the Supreme Court note, everything in Abrantes Barracks seems to precede almost four years of daily crimes. NOT ONLY!

Bolsonaro’s entourage knew how to set the stage, right? Considering the order of the speeches, it seems that the Minister of Defense, who is already an active general, is conveying messages or orders from the “boss” to the respective heads of the STF and TSE, to reiterate. “But did that happen?” Not like that, of course! But what was the agenda? Or did the soldier go to the magistrates to secure his compliance with the Constitution and the existence of the law of gravity?

Yes, I know: better than the memo that the head of defense signed in direct attack on Secretary Roberto Barroso just eight days ago. At a university seminar, the magistrate noted the obvious attempt to stir the Armed Forces into the electoral dispute by questioning the safety of the ballot boxes.

Now, this is not a value judgment, but a verifiable fact. It is worth noting that Barroso at the time, in expressing his views, praised the Armed Forces even beyond today’s merits. Even so, a note came that echoed the voices of the legions, as if Bolsonaro had already passed the Rubicon, like Júlio César.

“Oh, Reinaldo, do you think the general’s trip to the STF is bad?” not himself!

If you’ve ever been to test the coffee powder served there, great! But we do know that this Sunday, Bolsonaro, the boss of Nogueira de Oliveira, supported the coup demonstrations. He was in one of them. The other posted a video. With threats. I can invoke a classic image here: “This is peace in arms!” But it is not. The reason is simple: Only one side has weapons. It’s still a guardianship ambition.

And we need to get rid of it.

And let’s get rid of it. Soon or later.

PS: Bolsonaro wanted to “talk” to the Supreme? Why didn’t he do this himself or send the chief of staff, Ciro Nogueira? One possible answer: Turnover was busy taking care of the cashier, including the FNDE. And it has no bearing on the themes that Nogueira de Oliveira handles.

Ah, yes: the Head of Power only speaks to the heads of other Powers on corporate matters. And that’s enough!
