The British monarchy is embroiled in a new controversy after four international graphic agencies withdrew from their services for alleged digital manipulation the photograph published on Sunday of the Princess of Wales with her children, the first with Catherine since the operation on December 16 January.

In the photo, taken by Prince William at the beginning of last week at his residence in Windsor (about 40 kilometers from London), the Princess of Wales appears sitting outdoors surrounded by her three children standing at her side.

To her right is Prince Louis and behind him, with his arms around the princess, George, second in line to his father.

Agencies Getty Images, AFP, Reuters and Associated Press removed the image from their client channels after detecting an anomaly in the position of Princess Charlotte’s left hand.

After the photo was used by mainstream media on Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom, the American Associated Press announced to its subscribers on Sunday evening that it would be deleting it.

“Upon closer inspection, it appears the source manipulated the image. No replacement photo will be sent,” he reported.

Shortly afterwards, the Anglo-Canadian Reuters and the French AFP also eliminated it, as well as the American Getty Images.

The British agency PA, which originally distributed it because it was the reference medium in the United Kingdom, kept it, but stated that it had asked Kensington Palace for an explanation.

Catalina posted the image to her X account on Mother’s Day, with the message: “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the past two months. Wishing you all a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

The image is still posted on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account. The photograph raised expectations as it was the princess, 42,’s first since she underwent abdominal surgery at a London clinic for an unspecified ailment that has been the subject of much speculation.

According to palace sources, the future queen, who spent thirteen days in hospital, is recovering well from the operation, although she is not expected to undertake official commitments until after Easter.
