The Crow: The confusing and absurd death of Bruce Lee’s son during the filming of the film

This year the remake of The Raven (The Crow), the infamous 1994 film Brandon Lee starred in accidentally lost his life.

The senseless death of Brandon Lee

The film became infamous because on March 31, 1993, during filming, Brandon Lee was hit by an unexpected bullet. Something similar to what happened in Rust with Alec Baldwin and director of photography Alina Hutchins.

The accidental shooting occurred while recording the scene Eric remembers as Funny guy -character of Michele Massee– shoot. The fatal confusion had to do with the fact that a close-up of Funboy’s loaded Smith & Wesson Magnum revolver had been filmed before that scene.

The revolver had real bullets because the production had little budget to use other alternatives. The master gunsmith had been fired because he didn’t have enough money to pay him.

To design the weapon, manufacturing had removed the gunpowder, but not the primers. When at one point someone fired the primer, a real bullet remained lodged inside the barrel.

That same weapon was then used in the fateful scene with blank bullets without anyone knowing that it contained a hidden bullet locked inside it.

When Masse fired, the gunpowder from the bullet fired the bullet that had stuck and hit Lee’s abdomen. killing him practically on the spot.

Although they quickly transferred him to the hospital, they could not save him: he died at 1.03 pm on March 31, 1993, 17 days after his wedding and 8 days after finishing filming.

The film was eventually released with the support of Brandon’s family. To replace him in the few scenes he had left, they used special effects and a stunt double.

What was it about?

In August 1993, Brandon’s mother, Beautifulsued the filmmakers for negligence, but got nothing: the matter was settled two months later on terms that were not disclosed at the time.

Massee, the actor who accidentally shot Brandon, was traumatized by what happened and took a year off to recover. He never saw the film again..

Twelve years after the accident, Massee said he still had nightmares about that day. Regardless, the actor managed to rebuild his career and died in 2016 at the age of 64 after battling a serious illness.
