Equatorial Guinea attracts attention because It is the only country in Africa to have Spanish as its official language (not counting Western Sahara). This is because it was a Spanish colony until 12 October 1968, the date on which its sovereignty was proclaimed.

In a video that has already been seen by almost four million users, Luisito talks to local people and shows what the Spanish accent of those who live in that area sounds like.

In the comments on the video, a super cordial exchange emerged between Guineans and Latin Americans.

“It means a lot to me and to my country, Equatorial Guinea, that the level of media impact of your channel could be the perfect way to introduce our country to our Latin brothers,” one person wrote, for example.

Languages in Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea has two other official languages besides Spanish: French and Portuguese. Although around 12 languages are spoken there, the most popular is Spanish (87.7% of the population according to the Cervantes Institute).

Spanish is spoken in schools and the books that children read to study are written in that language.

Although Spanish is the most spoken language today, the language risks decreasing its popularity due to the advance of French, English and Portuguese due to the influence of immigrants from neighboring countries and the American oil companies established in the country . .
