For years and with great force in the 21st century we have been talking about climate change, recycling, carbon emissions and care for the environment.

These harmful elements can be physical, chemical or biological, which, in high concentrations, are harmful to health and can lead to the death not only of people and animals, but it could end the planet.

The place Green future found in the plastic and its production is one of the highest risk harmful agents. Plastic is a synthetic material derived from fossil fuels, so resistant takes hundreds of years to degrade and pollutes the waters of rivers and oceans. Its production generates greenhouse gases that also pollute the atmosphere and contribute to destructive climate change.

Another of the most important pollutants is mining and fossil fuel exploitationprotect the site Portuguese Energywho published the conditions and consequences of Increasingly polluting countries from human activities or natural processes.

What is the least polluting country on the planet?

The studies of Portuguese Energy They answer this question without hesitation: Denmark. And this privilege corresponds to United Nations vote who named this country as the second “happiest in the world” for its high well-being and its comfortable and free situation.

Denmark occupies the first place in the Environmental Performance Index established by North American universities of Yale AND Colombia in 2022. 180 countries participated in the study in which 32 indicators were evaluated ranging from greenhouse gas emissions to waste treatment, environmental decarbonisation and biodiversity.

The second place in the list of sustainability is occupied by Luxembourg and Switzerland, the third. With this diagnosis it was clear the hegemony in the quality of life is European. Up to 11th place, all countries belong to that continent: there are the United Kingdom, France, Austria, Finland and Sweden. Recently Japan appears in 12th placeone of the few Asian countries appreciated for its environmental conduct.

Even so, Yale and Columbia universities make this clear No country is really close to achieving total carbon neutrality.although we can highlight some regions, cities or communities, called “lighthouse” or “smart”, which are committed to renewable energy, electric vehicles and the reduction of energy consumption.

They are all demonstration areas, spreading methods that should be imitated to talk about a more global decarbonization.

Those that pollute the most

According to the Portuguese energy site, data from Global Carbon Atlasa scientific platform that monitors carbon dioxide emissions around the world, the three most polluting countries China, United States and India.

These large, overpopulated countries they are heavily dependent on fossil fuels to make prices accessible. The agency expects China to achieve its carbon neutrality plan by 2060 and for the United States to comply with the principles of the Paris Agreement (2016), in which a common policy to combat climate change.
