Doctors say Catalina’s cancer diagnosis is a familiar one to them

While it is not known what type of cancer Princess Catherine is suffering from, some oncologists say that what she described during her public statement released on Friday (that the cancer was discovered during another procedure, in this case a “major operation abdominal”) is very common.

Elena Ratner, a gynecologic oncologist at Yale University Cancer Center who has diagnosed many patients with ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and endometrial cancer, said:

“Unfortunately, a large amount of cancer “What we diagnose is unexpected.”

Without speculating on the princess’ procedure, Ratner described situations in which women undergo surgery endometriosisa disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found elsewhere in the abdomen.

Ratner said it is often assumed that endometriosis appeared in an ovary and caused a benign ovarian cyst.

However, between one and two weeks later, when the seemingly benign tissue was studied, pathologists report detecting cancer.

In the statement, Catalina, also known as Kate, commented that she was getting “a round of preventive chemotherapy”.

This is also common.

In medical terms, it is commonly known as adjuvant therapy.

Eric Winer, a doctor and director of the Yale University Cancer Center, said that with adjuvant therapy “the hope is that this will prevent further problems” and prevent a cancer recurrence.

Michael Birrer, director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, said it also means you’ve “removed everything” that was visible through surgery. Birrer added:

“You can’t see the cancer” because microscopic tumor cells may remain.

The doctor explained that chemotherapy is a way to attack the disease microscopic.

Other parts of Kate’s statement were also familiar to Ratner; in particular, her concern for her family.

Princess Catherine mentioned:

“William and I have done our best to process and handle the situation privately for the sake of our young family.”

And he added: “It took time to explain everything to Jorge, Carlota and Luis in a way that suits them and to reassure them that I will be fine.”

These are sensations that Ratner feels regularly and reveal, according to the doctor, “how difficult it is for women to be diagnosed with cancer”.

Ratnet concluded:

“I see it every day. Women always say, “Will I be there for my children?” What will happen to my children?’ They don’t say ‘What’s going to happen to me?'”
