In recent days, the Presidency of Peru and the Public Prosecutor have maintained a dispute regarding the proceedings initiated in the context of the open investigation into the alleged failure to declare his luxury watches by the sovereign.

Last Wednesday, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the sovereign’s visits both to her home and to the Government Palace were frustrated, while the Presidency assured that the representatives of the Public Prosecutor were assisted by the staff of Boluarte’s office, who received a notification for the president.

Supreme Prosecutor Hernán Mendoza declared before the Congressional Oversight Committee that the president “frustrated” the investigation by not responding to the summons presented on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

After this situation, Boluarte’s legal defense asked to reschedule the proceedings in the investigation into the case of the luxury watches that the president did not declare and for which she is under investigation for illicit enrichment.

In response to this request, the Attorney General commented that the president’s attitude was a “clear indicator of rebellion” which does nothing but “delay the outcome of the investigations”.

He Channel No television showed images showing that a large contingent of police remained in the early hours of this Saturday to monitor the surroundings of the president’s house, while agents of the High Complexity Crime Investigation Division remained inside (Diviac ) of the National Police together with a team of prosecutors.

The three luxury watches that engage Dina Boluarte

The investigation into Dina Boluarte for using luxury watches began in mid-March, when the news program “La Encerrona” said it had examined thousands of official photos in an investigation into watches used by the president and stood out among all a Rolex that is worth up to 14,000 dollars in Peru. Other programs then detected at least two more Rolexes.

Boluarte, a 61-year-old lawyer, was a modest official in a district identity registration office until her inauguration as the country’s vice president on July 28, 2021, under then-President Pedro Castillo. She became her social inclusion minister with a salary of $8,136 per month.

When parliament removed Castillo on December 7, 2022, Boluarte took over the presidency with a lower salary, $4,200. Shortly thereafter he began exhibiting luxury watches. All officials are required to declare their assets to avoid possible cases of illicit enrichment, and Boluarte’s asset declarations do not record any Rolex.

It is not the only case pending in the justice system of the president, whose popularity in February was just 8%, according to the company Ipsos Peru. The prosecutor arraigned her in November before Congress for aggravated murder and serious injury in connection with the 49 deaths in clashes with security forces during protests demanding her resignation.
