At one point, during the walk, the girl slipped and fell from a rocky ledge. She slipped for a hundred meters and he died from the blow before his father’s eyes. The man was shocked.
Both residents of Pamplona, Spain, they had gone with the rest of the family to the municipality of Arette to spend a few days on holiday.
The incident occurred around 4pm (14 GMT), Spanish diplomatic sources confirmed to EFE. “He appears to have slipped and fallen from a rock ledge, sliding about a hundred metres.“, has indicated Pierre Casabonnemayor of Arette, according to public broadcaster France Bleu.
After the accident, her father realized he couldn’t help her and retraced the path that had taken them to the Séguitte plateau to look for help.
French mountain rescue services were on site until 7.30pm (1730 GMT) and mobilized a helicopter to evacuate the deceased minor.
Spanish diplomatic sources confirmed the death to EFE and that the Spanish consulate in Pau is in contact with the French gendarmerie, responsible for the recovery of the body, and with the Prefecture, responsible for investigating the incident.
The Consulate and the Emergency Consular Unit of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs have made themselves available to the family to provide assistance and collaborate in the repatriation, according to the sources.
Another tragedy in the Pyrenees
At the end of 2023 it became known that a 17-year-old British boy found in France six years after he disappeared in Spain had returned to England to the home of his grandmother, who has custody of him.
The body of Alex Batti, originally from the English city of Oldham (northern), was picked up in December by a deliveryman in a mountainous area of southern France. French and British police confirmed his identity.
Police suspect his mother and grandfather kidnapped him in 2017, when he was 11, under the pretext of a holiday in Spain, and then lived in alternative lifestyle communities in that country and the French Pyrenees.
Alex Batty was last heard from in Spain on October 8, 2017, the day he, his mother Melanie Batty and grandfather David Batty were due to return home from a family holiday.
Search operations, together with the Spanish authorities, did not allow him to be located at that time.
