  • Rosemary: requires light, sandy and fairly dry soil. It is used to season meats and poultry and gives off a strong camphor aroma.
  • Eucalyptus: With its leaves you can prepare one of the most effective natural repellent liquids that exist and with its branches you can even make a vase to place near the windows.

  • Kidron: It is a shrubby plant that can reach 2 meters in height. It has a citrus aroma and many use it to flavor yerba mate.
  • Basil: It needs dry, well-drained soil. It contains substances that give off a very pungent odor that mosquitoes do not like. The leaves have a very strong and distinctive flavor that is often used in foods.
  • Lavender: It needs dry, sunny soil. The entire plant is covered in hairs loaded with essence with aromas that repel insects.
  • Mint: It prefers moist soil and sun to develop its flavor. Its aroma is capable of scaring away mosquitoes, flies and even ants. The stronger the scent, the greater its ability to repel insects.

  • Wise: When the sage plant comes into contact with fire, its earthy odor will scare off nearby insects. Its effectiveness is not only notable while alive, but its dried leaves can also be used as part of a homemade insecticide.
  • Rua: It is excellent at repelling mosquitoes and has a long shelf life. Requires moderate watering and sunlight, preferably not direct.

Recommendations against mosquitoes from the Ministry of Health

While there are a wide variety of plants that can help keep mosquitoes away, the Ministry of Health recommends some Preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites.

Recommendations for preventing bites:

  • Eliminate all containers that could accumulate water (turn, empty and brush frequently and/or store indoors).
  • Use repellent, long-sleeved clothing and light colors.
  • Place mosquito nets on doors and windows.
  • Place nets or tulle over cribs or strollers.
  • Use environmental repellents such as tablets (internal) or spirals (external).
