They discovered in Egypt 85 tombs of at least 2,500 years and 30 of them were the documents of the dead.
The Ministry of Antiquities Egypt announced today that an archaeological mission has discovered more than 80 graves in sohag provinceabout 500 kilometers south of Cairo, dating back to various ancient times where about 30 contain the identification cards of the deceased.
In a statement, the ministry confirmed that the Egyptian mission had discovered “about 85 graves from different periods from the end of the Old Kingdom (3100 BC- 2125 BC) to the end of the Ptolemaic period (309 BC- 30 BC) “
The head of the Central Administration of Antiquities of Upper Egypt, Mohammed Abdelbadi |explained in the statement that the tombs have “many styles, some are excavated at different levels in the mountain, while others are formed by a shaft or some burial shaft, and the latter are mausoleums with ramps interacting with a mortuary room ”.
The discovery of 85 graves at Sohag took place in a tower -like house where they controlled ship traffic on the Nile River.
In tombs belonging to the Ptolemaic period, they were found 30 Mummy Card, which is treated as a permit for burial, written in ancient Greek only, with human remains and mummy remains. These cards include filiation data of the deceased’s name and the name of his or her father or mother, along with his or her residence, profession and age at death, in addition to some supplications to the ancient gods of Egypt.
The discovery was made in a tower house built using mud bricks and used as checkpoint to observe traffic between the borders of Nome, collect taxes and secure ships that sailed the Nile River.
The 85 tombs discovered in Egypt that are at least 2,500 years old belong to the Ptolemaic period.
Last year, this Egyptian archaeological mission discovered approximately 250 caves of nobles and high officials located in the necropolis of Al Hamidiyah, in Sohagduring a historical project documentation in the area.
The 30 documents contain the names of the dead, as well as family information and prayers to the gods.
