In an article published on the CNBC website, communications expert and Stanford University professor Matt Abrahams shared some phrases that people with emotional intelligence use. The professional states that “whatever you say show empathy and listen indicates greater emotional intelligence.”

Among these sayings are the phrases “what I hear you say is…” AND “let me sort things out…”. Both sentences show that the person listens and characterizes what was said to him better, that is, pays attention. Then he paraphrases it.

The expert states that those sentences”they validate the person because it’s nice to be summarized.” Furthermore, he adds: “This tends to generate liking and trust, which are important, and people who have a high level of emotional intelligence tend to be successful.”

On the other hand, Abrahams states that people with this empathy demonstrate active and deep listening. Accompanied by these sentences, there is the body language. “Making eye contact, nodding your head and saying ‘uh-huh’ can show that you’re engaged in the conversation,” the professor says.
