German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters, who has been investigating the case since 2020, said investigators have found new evidence that could potentially incriminate the prime suspect in the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann 15 years ago.

In an interview with Portuguese television channel CMTV yesterday, Wolters said he believed the detectives had found “some truth, some new evidence”, adding: “We are confident that he (Brueckner) is the murderer of Madeleine McCann”.

What kind of evidence was found was not reported.

Christian Brueckner, 45, who was held behind bars in Germany for raping a woman in the same region of Algarve in Portugal as Madeleine disappeared in 2007 when she was 3 years old, was convicted of child abuse and drug trafficking. .

On 22 April, at his request, the prosecutor released the indictment of a suspect in Germany as part of the investigation “in cooperation with the British and German authorities”.

Brueckner denied any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine, who disappeared from her hotel room during the family’s vacation.

There was speculation that the trailer Brueckner used during his disappearance had evidence linked to Madeleine. The CMTV reporter asked Wolters if he denied these allegations, and he replied, “I don’t want to deny it.”

The trailer has been in the hands of German police since June 2020, when authorities began searching for information about Brueckner.

Wolters, who was not available for immediate comment, said he could not provide details of the ongoing German investigation as the suspect had not yet been briefed.
