Donald Trump may have had an affair with a porn star, But if he returned to the White House he could ban that industry, as adult film actors warn in a campaign urging young people to vote against the Republican on November 5.
The #HandsOffMyPorn campaign (Hands off my porn) invested $200,000 in ads on adult websites, with the warning that Trump’s senior allies want to ban pornography and jail industry stars.
And they are calling for action at the polls: “If you care about adult entertainment, if you consume or create adult entertainment, you need to vote on November 5,” porn actress Siouxsie Q tells AFP. “There’s nothing else way of doing It.” .
The campaign seeks to address Project 2025, a plan to reform the federal government if Trump wins.
The project’s 900-page prologue reads: “Pornography should be banned. “The people who make it and distribute it should be jailed.”
Trump has sought to distance himself from Project 2025, but dozens of his allies and former members of his administration co-wrote the document. Democrats argue that many of the proposals coincide with those of the Republican candidate.
The #HandsOffMyPorn campaign is aimed primarily at men, who consume four times more pornography than womenaccording to the Institute for Family Studies.
A few weeks before the close elections between Trump and the vice president, the Democrat Kamala Harris, Polls show a wide gender gap among voters.
Trump has greater support from male votersregularly directing his sexist rhetoric at young people on right-wing podcasts.
The advertisements
#HandsOffMyPorn “public service announcements” are delivered to users in contested election states, such as Pennsylvania, Arizona and Georgia, almost always before they view adult videos.
Actresses like Siouxsie Q appear in ads calling out something like, “Hey, I know you’re busy. I know you’re doing something. Wait. If you want to keep doing this, you really need to vote on November 5th… Have fun!”.
Harris has no connection to the #HandsOffMyPorn campaign, funded by the Artist United for Change organization, Siouxsie Q explains.
“We hope, secretly, that she likes what we’re doing.”comments the actress.
Anti-pornography measures are nothing new in the United States, but Holly Randall, who has been in the industry for 26 years, believes she has never seen a potentially devastating threat to the industry like now.
Not even when their parents, who worked in the pornography industry during Ronald Reagan’s administration in the 1980sthey had to secretly film hardcore scenes.
“I’ve seen these attacks come and go… Project 2025 is the most explicit reiteration of the desire to make pornography completely illegal,” he says.
“Absolutely, I’m worried about incarceration.” this is proposed, adds Siouxsie Q, who became famous for her feminist performances in queer and bondage films before becoming a producer.
Porn stars also warn of consequences that may lie beyond this popular industry.
According to Siouxsie Q, what can happen with pornography it is a symptom of the impact on the right to free expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. And he also cites the Republican-led ban on sex education books in schools.
The adult entertainment industry is “a lightning rod,” according to Randall, for broader issues such as trans rights, gay marriage and even reproductive rights.
“It’s always the easiest thing to attack because it represents people’s uncertainty and fear of moral shifts in sexuality and gender fluidity,” she says.
Although Trump denies ties to the 2025 Project, a New York Times investigation proved as much this week “well over half” of the authors of the document were part of the former president’s administration, his campaign or his transition team.
Randall notes the irony of the matter: Trump convicted of fraud after paying bribes to buy the silence of former porn star Stormy Daniels, He is involved in the project, although he suspects that he “doesn’t care whether this industry is banned or not.”
“But it’s the people around him like J.D. Vance (his vice presidential candidate), the far-right conservatives, who want to ban pornography,” he said.
JD Vance wrote the foreword for Kevin D. Roberts’ next bookauthor of the section of Project 2025 that proposes a ban on pornography.
“I think Trump will easily step aside and let this happen,” Randall says.
