Russia on Wednesday reiterated that it had fired two Kalibrise cruise missiles at Ukrainian targets from a submarine in the Black Sea, and that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for Ukraine would target arms shipments from the Western military alliance.
The Ministry of Defense released video footage of cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea and said they hit unspecified ground targets in Ukraine.
Russia previously announced that it carried out similar attacks from a submarine on April 29.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reiterated his warning that Russia would seek to destroy convoys carrying weapons to Ukraine from Western countries, which have intensified shipments of this material in recent weeks.
“The United States and NATO allies continue to send weapons to Ukraine,” Shoigu said at a conference with Defense Ministry officials on the 70th day of the operation, which Russia calls a special military operation in Ukraine.
“We consider any North Atlantic Alliance transport that reaches the territory of the country with weapons or supplies destined for the Ukrainian Army as a target to be destroyed.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense said earlier that it bombed energy supplies, decommissioning six train stations in Ukraine that were used to supply Ukrainian forces with Western-made weapons in the east of the country.
It was not possible to independently verify the claim, which did not say what Western-made weapons were supplied to the Ukrainian forces through these stations. There was no immediate reaction from Kiev.
Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov was shown at the meeting of defense officers with Shoigu. On Monday, the United States said it believed Gerasimov had visited Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region last week, but could not confirm media reports that Gerasimov was injured during the fighting.
