Ukraine has lashed out at former Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who said Volodomir Zelensky’s government was “similarly responsible” of Moscow for the war in Ukraine.
“Former Brazilian president Lula da Silva speaks about Ukraine’s or the West’s guilt in the war. These are Russia’s attempts to distort the truth“, asked Mykhailo Podolyak, one of the main advisers to the Ukrainian president.
Through his Twitter account, the adviser to the Ukrainian leader’s office concluded: “It’s simple: Russia has treacherously attacked Ukraine. The war is only on Ukraine’s territory, Russia is killing civilians massively. Classic war of destruction and conquest“.
Kyiv’s reaction came after an interview by Lula da Silva in Time magazine, in which she featured her harsh stance when it comes to siding with Russia’s aggression on Ukraine.
During the conversation, Zelensky was brutally attacked by the leader of the Labor Party and candidate for the next elections in Brazil for his public appearance.
“Sometimes I see the president of Ukraine on television as if he is partying, receiving a standing ovation from all parliamentarians, you know? This person is as responsible as Putin,” he launched.
In this context, he said: “He is as responsible as Putin because a war does not have a single culprit.”
Although he said he did not know the Ukrainian president, he said “he has a strange attitude seems to be part of a show“.
“He appears on television in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening; in the English parliament; in the German parliament; and in the French parliament as if campaigning,” he insisted.
“I need to worry more about the negotiating table,” Lula lashed out. “I want a war”, he insisted. And he reiterated that if Zelensky “didn’t want a war, he negotiated a little more.”

When asked about Putin’s role, Lula said: “I criticized him when I was in Mexico City, saying the aggression was wrong. But no one seeks to contribute to peace. People are fanning the flames of hatred against Putin. That will not be fixed. An agreement must be established. “
However, he warned that “there is a stimulus” for confrontation. “You keep rooting for the boy [por Zelensky] and he thinks it’s still cool. He thinks he’s still the cocada king, where they should have had a more serious conversation with Putin. “

Ukrainian ambassador to Brazil Anatoliy Tkach also denied the former president’s criticism and said the PT head was “Wrong information”.
Tkach also announced that he would ask an audience “including the esteemed former president of Brazil” to explain the reasons for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
