Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that it has banned multiple Japanese officials from entering the country, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, after Japan agreed to international sanctions against Moscow over its military attack on Ukraine.

“The F. Kishida administration launched an unprecedented anti-Russian campaign and allowed unacceptable rhetoric, including slander and direct threats, against the Russian Federation,” the ministry said in a statement.

“This resonates with public figures, experts, and representatives of the Japanese media who are fully committed to Western attitudes towards our country,” the note adds.

The ministry accuses Tokyo of “taking practical steps aimed at destroying good neighborly relations and harming the Russian economy and the country’s international prestige”.
