Three American tourists were killed and the fourth was flown to the capital to receive medical treatment for causes not yet known at the hotel complex in Emerald Bay Sandals from the island of Great Exuma, in the heart of the Bahamas archipelago.
Bahamas Minister of Tourism Chester Cooper reported via a statement that the deaths were confirmed by police authorities at 5:30 pm local time (9:30 pm GMT) on Friday.
“Sadly, I was informed today of the deaths of three American tourists, two men and a woman, at a tourist property in Exuma. Another American woman was transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital – located in the capital, Nassau,” Cooper said.
The Tourism Minister said he was informed by the Police Commissioner and the hotel center management about the deadly incident.
Three American tourists are staying at the luxurious Caribbean resort.
He pointed out that the Police are investigating and still do not know the cause of death of the deceased, although it will be released that it is a crime,

In the statement, Sandals Resorts said they were actively working to “support both the investigation and the families of the guests in any way possible” but could not disclose any additional information “out of respect for the privacy of our guests.”
“I have asked the Minister for Health and Welfare, Michael Darville, to send a delegation to Exuma tonight,” he said of the ongoing investigation.

It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of three guests at Sandals Emerald Bay on May 6, 2022,” the statement stated. “A health emergency was first reported and, following our protocols, we immediately alerted the emergency medical professionals and relevant local authorities.”

Meanwhile, local police said they were investigating the “sudden deaths” of three Americans, and it was unclear how the people died.

“Arriving at the scene, they were directed to the first villa. Upon entering a room, they found a Caucasian man lying and not responding to the ground,” the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement posted on Twitter. “A physical examination was performed, no signs of trauma were found. The local doctor eventually pronounced the victim dead,” the Fox News report said.
Officers then proceeded to a second villa where they found another unresponsive man and “knocked down the bathroom wall.” A woman was also found unconscious in a bedroom in a bed. Both individuals have been reported to show signs of a “seizure.”
“Officers examined the bodies and found no signs of trauma. The local doctor later pronounced both individuals dead,” Bahamas police said.
A police statement said the couple in the second villa sought medical treatment the night before they were found dead, complaining of unwell. Then they returned to their lodgings.
Authorities said they would await the results of an autopsy and that “the matter remains under active investigation.”
